We Happy Few Preview

We Happy Few is one of the most innovative releases in years of the gaming industry. I do not tread these waters lightly, and it's coming in April 2018. Your protagonist must survive in a retrofuturistic 1960's dystopian society, with war and substance abuse that is religiously celebrated. We Happy Few is a stealth adventure where black is white and up is down. Because hedonism rules over the souls of Wellington Wells, you must conform to the ways of the people, take your happy pills, as your protagonist will essentially operate while impaired. Wellington Wells teeters on the brink of total destruction, you must adapt or die.

The plot mechanics are a brilliant twist, essentially making your gaming protagonist and the entire world inhabited based on the mindset of mental illness and a society consumed in war. This world operates on a questionable dystopian morality, enabling a dark future with the need in an apocalyptic world to permanently conform to self-destruction in order to survive. War persists in definition, as barbarities committed in the name of mere survival.

The unique hybrid of cell-shading and ambient occlusion saturated textures creates a frightening but brilliant potential open-world action game. I would not advise falling for the preorder trap for most games, but the innovative potential of one of the most controversial and possibly cutting-edge title premise such as We Happy Few has the potential to be a must buy of 2018. I look forward to reviewing this dystopia and seeing if the hype can match the reality.
