Star Wars Battlefront II is clear proof that game developers have not learned anything in 2017. It's official, no one is listening to Angry Joe! If game developers listened, they would realize that the core hardcore gamers despised pointless microtransactions. Despised loot progression systems and despised paid DLC for minor upgrades! Paid DLC is okay when the content is substantial or doesn't break the skill gap. Unfortunately, Electronic Arts could not care less at all about game balance in multiplayer! EA's religious motto is simple. "GIVE US MONEY SUCKERS!!!" The dreadful news is in, Star Wars Battlefront II for the PS4 Pro works on an entirely unfair, unbalanced and broken Pay To Win system!
Now the skill gap is destroyed. It doesn't matter how good you are at shooting, when a newcomer who has more cash than you can buy all of the best weapons and gear, efficiently ruining multiplayer combat! Its a shame, because Star Wars Battlefront II may otherwise have been EA's best game in years, featuring realistic Star Wars space combat matches with over eighteen players online!
Battlefront II’s progression system is tied to items called Star Cards. These cards give the player special in-game bonuses, such as increased health, and faster ability cooldowns. Some cards have highly specific upgrades: for instance, you can equip the Tactical Jammer card to your starfighter, and it will increase the length of time it takes for opponents to lock onto you. Each star card also has a specific rarity level.
This means a rare “blue” star card will grant a bigger bonus than the lower “green” card. Yet EA didn't listen to players who panned the Beta of Battlefront II because of Pay To Win, so nothing has become fixed, it's the same mind-numbingly broken and cheap system that removes all potential skill!!!
Esports is a dying trend that needs to make a resurgence in the gaming community, and shady practices such as this that benefit the game developers looking to make a quick buck, and not the casual or hardcore gamers alienates the core product market, and will subsequently hurt sales monetization down the line! Halo 3 dominated the MLG gaming circuit due to its substantial skill gap. There was zero pay to win incentives, you could either aim and strategize better than your opponents, or you lost the match. Period!
Then along came the release of Halo Reach which nearly ruined the entire Halo franchise! Random bloom, armor abilities and random loot drops that made winning half luck instead of skill, dwindling Halo's population base. Halo 5 for its flaws, understands the need for a skill gap. Therefore all players in all competitive modes start with the same weapons and abilities. Star Wars Battlefront II ruins this competitive edge, because the player with the most money will win, instead of the gamer with the most skill. For shame EA! For shame!
